The Department of Chemistry, an integral part of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at UGM, is housed in a spacious building spanning approximately 6500 m2. The department boasts five cutting-edge research and practicum laboratories, namely Analytical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Basic Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry laboratories. Within the MIPA postgraduate building, there is a dedicated chemistry postgraduate laboratory where master’s and doctoral students conduct their thesis and doctoral research. Additionally, the Department of Chemistry collaborates with the Austrian government (Austria-Indonesian for Computational Chemistry / IC) in maintaining a Computational Chemistry Laboratory. All laboratories at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences UGM, are integrated with a Laboratory Information System (SILAB) accessible to both the academic community and the broader public.
As of 2022, the Department of Chemistry has expanded its facilities on the 6th floor of the new Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences building. This new space will serve as a Computational Chemistry Laboratory, Reference Library, courtroom, and lecture hall.
The Department of Chemistry is equipped with state-of-the-art international standard research instrumentation, including TEM, XRD, AAS, GC-MS, HPLC, H-NMR, FTIR, FT-IR ATR, Surface Area Analyzer, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, Electrophoresis, Potentiometer, Bomb Calorimeter, TLC Scanner, Organic Elemental Analyzer, and more. Additionally, the department houses a comprehensive reference library featuring an extensive collection of textbooks, scientific works, and journals, including materials in CD-ROM and other media formats.
To ensure seamless connectivity, the global internet network in the Department of Chemistry utilizes fiber optic cable (FO/Fiber Optics cable) technology, with 13 high-density access points strategically placed throughout the department. Almost all student-centric spaces within the department are equipped with wireless internet facilities (WiFi).
