Founded on September 1, 1960, the Department of Chemistry at Gadjah Mada University (UGM) stands as a cornerstone in shaping the academic landscape. Its official recognition came through the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education No. 22/DIKTI/Kep/1995 and was further reinforced by the Decree No. 221/DIKTI/Kep/1996 on July 11, 1996. Responding to the escalating demand for doctoral-level experts, in 1981, UGM inaugurated a Postgraduate Chemistry Study Program under the auspices of the Postgraduate MIPA Department, Postgraduate Faculty. This milestone was achieved through the Decree of the Director General of Higher Education of the Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia No. 580/DIKTI/Kep/1993, dated September 29, 1993.
In a significant move starting from the 2007/2008 academic year, UGM undertook a transformative initiative outlined in the UGM Chancellor’s Decree No. 89/P/SK/HT/2006. This transformative step brought the Chemistry Postgraduate Program for Doctoral Studies under the umbrella of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA). Beyond merely being a program, the Chemistry Doctoral Program at UGM stands as a trailblazer in delivering advanced education in its field. With a storied history and forward-thinking vision, the program emerges as the premier choice for those seeking a focused and pertinent doctoral-level education.
